Return to Gardens by the Bay

As you’ve seen in previous posts (see here and here), Gardens by the Bay is one of our favorite places to go – and going there with Kyra and Chryssa is always a great time! So one weekend in April, we went back with the girls and their parents.

There was splashing around in the waterpark, playing at the playground, reading maps, looking at various exhibits, and also snacking.

And random dancing too:

Always a great time with these two girls!

Happy Birthday to Tanishka!

Nyan’s friend and classmate Tanishka had a birthday in March, and her parents threw a great party in a hotel ballroom one Sunday afternoon. There was food, drinks, arts and crafts, dancing… and a magic show too!

A lot of Nyan’s fellow classmates made it out to the party.

And they danced…

Happy birthday, Tanishka!

Bunky Visits Singapore!

As we’ve seen before, Nyan and Elizabeth – a.k.a. Bunky, a.k.a. Mommy’s BFF Sharon’s daughter — get along like long-lost brother-and-sister. So they were both super excited when she came for a visit! Bunky (and her parents) stayed with us a few nights and also spent a few nights at a resort hotel. Here’s some of what they got up to.

We managed to get a fair number of photos of the two of them posing:

Nyan is a bit older than Bunky and enjoyed playing the big brother to her, including reading to her at night:

We spent some time at their hotel, where Nyan and Bunky slid down the waterslide:

And splashed in the pool:

And chased around the peacocks that wander the hotel grounds:

Mostly though, they just enjoyed hanging out, skipping down the street, being pals.

Random February Fun

Here’s a bunch of photos and videos from February that didn’t fit anywhere else.

Goofing around in the elevator:

Singing a school song about the parts of the body:

Happy Birthday to Kyra and Chryssa!

Nyan’s classmate Kyra and her younger sister Chryssa have birthdays around the same time, so their parents (wisely) decided to throw a single party for both. It was at their condo complex right next door to ours, and featured lots of kids from Nyan’s school.

Ballon sculpture was a big hit:

And there were other balloons too:

The highlight, though, was surely the magic show.

The kids were hyped for it:

Okay, it wasn’t all magic. Part of it involved the MC just getting the kids to scream as loud as they could.

This is an interesting video. Nyan’s friends are *really* into the magician’s show. Nyan, though, seems distracted and finally gets up to go get… well, watch and find out.

And did we mention the balloons? Yeah, the kids loved the balloons.

All in all, a great afternoon!

Happy Birthday to Kyle!

Nyan’s BFF Kyle’s parents always throw great birthday parties (see 2015’s edition here), and this year was no different. It was at one of those indoor playgrounds where kids can run riot on slides, trampolines, hamster cage-like tunnels, and the like. This one also featured climbing walls and a high-flying obstacle course of sorts where the kids had to be strapped in to safety harnesses and wires!

Here’s the birthday boy, along with his mommy, his sister and our hero:

Some random running around and bouncing:

The staff at the party place did a great job trying to herd all the kids and play games with them:

Nyan bravely gave the climbing wall a shot. He didn’t quite make it, but look at that effort! Well done.

Random fun and cake:

About that obstacle course. Here’s our boy, bravely getting suited and booted:

And off he goes. A little unsure at first…

Swinging tires. But he persevered:

Fancy footwork and intense concentration on the rope ladder bridge:

Really proud of his effort on the entire obstacle course.

The birthday boy and his pals again. Another successful party. Thanks, Kyle!

BONUS: Here’s the boy just before the fun, doing his goofy dances as we wait for our taxi to take us to the party.

Fun Times at MMI

If you’ve spent any time around this blog, you know that Nyan loves his school (Modern Montessori International, aka MMI) and his teachers and his classmates. Let’s take a quick look at some of the random bits of fun he gets up to at school, often at the end of the day.

Watch Nyan pull a rabbit, or something, out of his hat.

And it’s always a party when there are puppets involved:

Action shots!

Here’s a group shot from a field trip the class went on:

And telling stories about the field trip (it was a place with lots of adult-job scenarios the kids could act on, such as airline pilot, doctor, etc.)

And finally, just random bits of fun.

Gonna miss this place when we move on to ‘real’ school later this year!

Happy Birthday to Abi!

February was the month of birthdays. Multiple parties at school, and nearly every weekend brought one or more party at someone’s house. First up was Abi, who threw a lovely pool party at her condo down the road.

It was an iffy day, weather wise, and in fact we got caught in a shower walking to the party:

But the clouds cleared out and the party went on. Abi’s parents had hired a company that brings giant inflatable pool toys, and they were a huge hit.

Nyan didn’t quite get the concept of the waterslide:

He started to figure it out though:

Adriana, Nyan and Kyra enjoyed floating on a giant inflatable rainbow popsicle:

And (trying to) row a row boat across the pool:

Or just chillaxing in the water.

And of course there was cake

Mostly thought, it was about good times with good friends

A special surprise was Teacher Faiza, who had been Nyan’s teacher (and Abi’s, too) for most of the last two years.

Pearly Shells: School Concert 2016

Every autumn, Nyan’s school puts on a song-and-dance concert at a local auditorium. In 2015, Nyan wasn’t exactly the star of the show… well, he was in a sense, but only in the sense of everyone was looking at him because he just stood there glowering on the stage, not moving or singing. (You can reminisce here.)

But this past November, there was no such problem. He was awesome. Check out this official video of the performance. (Note that there’s 90 seconds or so of introductory remarks before the fun kicks in).

Some stills from that performance:

There was also a finale piece, featuring all the kids from all the schools taking part:

Everyone was all aglow afterwards:

And some more backstage pictures, also featuring the proud parents:

Finally, a couple more videos of the performances. The ones above are the ‘official’ videos — these were shot by Daddy and so focus solely on Nyan. The quality isn’t quite as good either, but still worth a look:

A Special Surprise at the Toy Store

One evening, Nyan and Daddy were at the local shopping mall, running some errands. A new Toys R Us store had just opened, so we spent a little time in there before going to a restaurant to get some dinner.

20170104_184836

During the course of all of this, Daddy happened to be talking via text message with Kyle’s mommy Sara about plans for a playdate, and mentioned the new toy store at the mall. Kyle lives not too far, so Sara decided she would take Kyle and sister Kara to the toy store as well.

Daddy didn’t bother to tell Nyan – but did say there was a surprise. Nyan thought the surprise was just a return to the store. Nope. Here’s the reunion of the two best pals:

After that it was just two boys running wild through the store.

It was a school night so we couldn’t stay out too late. But really – best friends and a toy store – Does it get any better than that?
