Nyan Thomas’s Big Super-fun Weekend

Oh what a weekend we’ve had. A weekend filled with Grandma, and trucks, and Uncle Iain, and much more. We’ve got one tired little man today! Here are some highlights.

On Thursday, Uncle Iain and Auntie Zuzu were coming down for a visit. We’d mentioned – once – to Nyan that Iain was going to be driving this big-ass American-style pickup truck that Nyan really loves. By the time they picked him up from nursery mid-afternoon, it turned out that he had been telling everyone – his carers and his fellow students – all day long that Uncle Iain was bringing him a truck! So Nyan proudly strutted his stuff to the truck, no doubt casting a look back at his classmates that said ‘See ya, suckas!’

Here he is, in front of our house with Mommy, playing around with the truck: Read the rest of this entry »

Summer Party

A couple weeks back, Daddy’s job threw this year’s version of the annual ‘summer’ picnic/party. Like last year (which you may have read about here), it was held at Wrotham Park, a sprawling estate that’s home to many acres of hills, trees and ponds, plus a big ol’ manor house. And like last year, the ‘summer’ picnic took place in early September. That worked out well last year, as the day was warm and sunny. This year, not so much – it was cool, cloudy and threatening rain all weekend, and a cold wind was whipping up the hills. In fact, Daddy came down with a nasty two-week cold the very next day; Nyan, we’re very happy to report, did not get sick. Whew.

Still. it was a very pleasant family outing. Here’s the star of the show, jamming to a little tune about summertime:

There was plenty of food:

A Visit to the Farm

n (2)

A couple weekends ago, Nyan took Daddy, Grandma and Grandpa to a place called Mudchute Park and Farm. It’s a pretty good sized area just south of Canary Wharf — that is to say, pretty much in the heart of London — that’s got acres and acres of forest, hills, and grazing land for a bunch of animals. Nyan had been to a farm or two in his day, but he’s getting more comfortable around the animals. Not entirely so, but getting there.

Here he is, feeding the goats with Daddy. Note that Nyan won’t hold the grass himself, but rather guides Daddy’s hand Read the rest of this entry »

Bus! (Pictures and video)

Nyan got a bus on Saturday.

IMG_1653

He loves buses, just like he loves helicopters, tractors, cars, trains, planes… But this is a special bus: it came from Uncle Jeff, who — with apologies to all the other uncles out there — has, for now at least, taken the title of Favorite Uncle, I think it’s safe to say.

Daddy’s cousin Jeff lives in Austin, Texas, USA with his wife Michelle. They came to Paris for an anniversary trip and came up to London for the day, as you do. It was of course great to see them – it had been several years – and I think it’s fair to say that Nyan had a blast Read the rest of this entry »

Day at the Museum

Nyan Thomas, Mommy and Daddy visited London’s Horniman Musem today – a natural history museum of sorts with a mishmosh of items, including this gigantic taxidermied walrus:

The place is filled with hundreds of such stuffed animals, many of which Nyan has been looking at in his books for months now – so for him, it was like they all came to life. Er, came to being stuffed. You know what I mean. There were owls, foxes, seals, dozens of birds, monkeys, a gorilla… He impressed us at one point by pointing across the room to a case and shouting “Emu!” It was an ostrich, but it looks a lot like an emu, so he definitely gets points for that.

Horniman House also has a small aquarium. It’s really just the right size for a young’un – maybe a dozen tanks of fish, plus a jellyfish display. Enough to keep him interested, but not so overwhelming that it takes hours to get through. Nyan was pretty intrigued, as you can see: Read the rest of this entry »

Summer Party! (with Lots of Pics and Video)

It’s definitely fall here in London — chilly, dark, rainy. So let’s think back to just a couple of short months ago, when we were enjoying summer’s last gasp with a fun-filled day outside. We’ve got lots and lots of pictures and videos. Read on…

Paralympics! (With photos and video)

The other night, we finally made it to the Olympic Park for an evening at the Paralympic Games. (Special thanks to Sharon and Chris for the tickets!)

It was a bit of a mad rush to get there – Mommy had to rush back home to pick up the boy from the daycare, then get back on the train to the Olympic Village, all while Daddy slogged through another day of training for his new job before rushing to the train to meet Mommy and Nyan at the park. The place was heaving with people, but getting through security and the various ticket checkpoints was remarkably fast and efficient. We didn’t see too much of the park, as the place is sprawling, but we did get close to the Stadium, the “Orbital” (that weird red metal sculpture that rises a couple hundred feet into the air), the water polo stadium, and – our destination for the night – the Aquatics Center.  Read the rest of this entry »
