In which Nyan Thomas sits in a drawer. Yes, he opened the drawer and climbed in. Then took off his sock. Then he climbed out and closed the drawer.
What can we say, the kid’s got skills!

Nyan Thomas turned 15 months old today, Oct. 26. Here’s a quick video of a happy young man, hanging out in his high chair after a big dinner. You don’t actually see Mommy or Daddy in this one, but you can hear them trying to entertain the young man, either by tossing crinkly bags in the air (he loves that, sometimes) or playing peek-a-boo, using the high chair tray to hide behind. The little pumpkin loves that, too. Enjoy!
Today was the annual Halloween party at Nyan’s nursery (aka daycare), and all the parents were invited to stop by in the mid afternoon. So we did – and we made sure that our young man had a proper Halloween costume, too. It was a big room with maybe 30 kids from age 1 to 5 or so, and about as many parents. There were songs, snacks, and general playtime. Best of all, if we do say so ourselves, was Nyan’s costume. Check out the slideshow of pictures… not to mention the videos below… Read the rest of this entry »
In which Nyan Thomas bangs a spoon, babbles and gurgles, chews a spoon, tries (and sort of succeeds) to feed himself, and generally shows why mealtime is always a fun, messy, long-lasting event.
And if you want to see how far we’ve come, or if you’re just in the mood to reminisce, check out this video from his very first ever solid food. And there’s this post with a trio of feeding time videos from last winter, and this post, with a pair of videos from April and over the summer, featuring Nyan Thomas doing more playing than eating.
Another one from a while back: Nyan Thomas being taken for a stroll by his cousins, Hetty and Pops. Taken in mid-July in Colchester – around 8pm, if memory serves – back when the sun would stay up until 9:30 or 10pm.
In which Nyan Thomas has some fun with bubbles before bed. (Complete with a drooly chin, too!)
And here’s a bonus video, from a couple weeks ago, Nyan Thomas hanging out, listening to music, playing with a hula hoop. All in a day’s work.
The other night, we finally made it to the Olympic Park for an evening at the Paralympic Games. (Special thanks to Sharon and Chris for the tickets!)
It was a bit of a mad rush to get there – Mommy had to rush back home to pick up the boy from the daycare, then get back on the train to the Olympic Village, all while Daddy slogged through another day of training for his new job before rushing to the train to meet Mommy and Nyan at the park. The place was heaving with people, but getting through security and the various ticket checkpoints was remarkably fast and efficient. We didn’t see too much of the park, as the place is sprawling, but we did get close to the Stadium, the “Orbital” (that weird red metal sculpture that rises a couple hundred feet into the air), the water polo stadium, and – our destination for the night – the Aquatics Center. Our boy had a fun day at nursery (day care) today: it was Sports Day! We’re not sure what exactly it involved, but there seemed to be water involved, as he got soaked at one point. He also earned, or at least came home with, a gold medal. Well done!
After his dinner and bath, he wasn’t very sleepy, so we all decided to hang out in the living room for a bit. Wanna see? Just click on the video below. You’ll see mommy playing some percussion instruments with him; you’ll witness him getting bored after a bit and crawling away, babbling; and you’ll see him pick up the TV remote control, point it at the TV, change the channel… and come thisclose to ordering a movie on pay per view. Clever boy; a little too clever sometimes, methinks…
(Video shot on iPhone, hence the less-than-stellar resolution of the picture…]
Hello! Sorry, everyone, for the long stretch of radio silence. Our excuses are many, and are pretty good, really: new house to move into, multiple visitors, some travel of our own, a new job for Daddy, and full-time nursery (day care) for our hero, and much more. Whew! What a month! So, yes, on the one hand, there should be lots and lots to blog about. On the other… well, there are only so many hours in the day, etc.
We’ll do our best to rectify things in the coming days. In the meantime, may we offer up a pair of somewhat shaky videos, of Nyan Thomas playing peek-a-boo with Daddy and giggling up a storm. Enjoy!
As you probably know, our boy turned one year old last week, and we had a brief and modest ceremony with some aunties and uncles. Were there plenty of cameras? There were. Here, then, some video.
First up: behind the scenes as we light the candles on his birthday cake.
And here, the main event: the singing of Happy Birthday to a slightly confused Nyan Thomas!
After the cake, his adoring fans demanded a speech. Young Nyan Thomas was more than willing to speak up.
