A quick and fun little video of Nyan playing at the dining table, and having a drink of orange juice. Doesn’t sound that exciting, we know, but it’s not too bad, really. Just watch.

Last night, a happy Nyan was spinning around the kitchen and being silly, pretending he was a space rocket. So Daddy whipped out his camera and took a quick video:
Yes, friends, that’s our boy, getting to know the concept of being dizzy after spinning around. We absolutely love the look of wonderment on his face as he sees the room spin and he declares “The house is moving!”
Just unloading a handful of photos, in no particular order, from January and February that, far as we can remember, didn’t make it in to any other posts. Also a couple of random videos from the same timeframe. Enjoy!
Or at least explains how a vacuum cleaner works.
The other day, we had the vacuum down in the kitchen to clean up a bunch of food that *somebody* spilled on the floor. When we were done, Nyan launched into this tremendously detailed explanation of how the vacuum works. It had something to do with jets of water, a chimney, the vacuum’s “leg” (which seems to be the extension part), and something he insists is called a “fint.” Oh, also, there are buttons that go “beep” when you push them.
After 10 minutes of this, Daddy grabbed his camera and started recording it. And he went on for five more minutes. After this video ends, Mommy came into the room and Nyan started explaining things to *her* – just as detailed and lengthy.
Oh yes there’s also the vacuum’s special feature that requires a carrot to be inserted into it.
This is our boy.
Some silly videos from the past couple of weeks. First up: our boy, being a robot – one of those new-fangled robots that have empty paper towel rolls as arms.
And when he’s not being a robot, he’s being… a box.
Finally, for good measure, here’ss a quickie of the lad babbling as he reads a book during dinner time. You can just hear Grandma L. on Skype in the background.
Nyan Thomas can sometimes be rather, shall we say, particular about things. Things must be just so. For instance: we have a hall closet with doors that sort of fold outwards like an accordion. (I’m sure there’s a technical term for it, but I’m at a loss.) It’s an older house so things don’t always work just right, and you have to put a little extra push on the doors of the closet to get them all the way closed. If you don’t, then it sticks out about half an inch – no big deal until our boy sees it. “Close door!” he demands as he shuts it himself.
An even better example of his tendencies is shown in these photos, taken by Grandma early one morning a week or so ago. His trucks, cars, buses etc. all had to be lined up perfectly. And he spends a lot of time making sure that’s the case. He’s very diligent when he puts his mind to something…

We had a fun Saturday morning of swimming, splashing, kicking, and (especially) jumping from the edge of the pool and into Daddy’s arms. Poor little fella was exhausted when we came home; he could barely lift his head up, though he kept insisting ‘No, I’ll wake up.’ He did, after a two hour nap – and he came back stronger than ever, chock full o’beans and energy. Here he is near the end of his lunch: dancing, singing, modeling mommy’s slippers, and just generally being Nyan.
Just for fun. Nyan Thomas riding his bike in the house (not really recommended, but hey) and making Daddy ride a little bike as well. Where’s he off to, and how’s he gonna get there? Just watch.
Our boy is definitely a boy’s boy. Without any prompting from us or anyone, he fell in love with every truck, fire engine, airplane, car, tractor, or noisy mechanical thing you can think of. He loves to be loud, he loves horseplay, he loves to make a mess. He’s a boy.
But.
He also likes to wear dresses.
We’re of course okay with that. It’s just costume dresses that he puts on at school some days, and refuses to take off when it’s time to go home. Fair enough; if it makes him happy, he can wear a dress home. The only possible downside, far as we’re concerned, is that someday we’ll be able to embarrass him with photos and videos of him wearing a dress.
Like here. The other day, he wanted to play with his toy tractor and truck out in the backyard. While still wearing his dress. We present this without comment or judgment; just enjoy our boy being, um, a boy.
Please note that at the end of this video, when he pushes the trailer and it slides out from under him and he splats on the ground… he was not harmed whatsoever. The video ends abruptly ’cause Daddy wanted to make sure Nyan was fine. And he was. I guess maybe the dress padded his fall?
.
This is a new one. We’re not sure where it came from, or what to make of it, but it’s certainly fun.
Quick backstory: this afternoon, Nyan was playing around with giant Lego blocks and came up with a little tower of blocks. He proudly showed it off to me and said: “Robot!” Not sure what to do with this, I said ‘Yes, it does look like a robot! Well done!’ (Where did he learn about robots?!) And as soon as he heard me say robot, he did this thing: he stretched out his face, opened his mouth, and did this weird spastic dance. It was actually hilarious – and he kept doing it, so of course we egged him on. Here, a few videos of Nyan Thomas doing the robot:
This last one is blurry – the power of the iPhone camera, I guess – apologies for that. But it’s probably the best example of The Robot we have:
Again, we have no idea where he learned the word ‘robot’ or where he got that odd little dance. The only thing we can figure is, of course, at daycare/nursery – but it doesn’t really seem like they’d be discussing advanced robotics with a room full of 1-year-olds, ya know? Eh, whatever. It’s just Nyan being Nyan.
