Last Sunday, our intrepid hero got his first taste of real-live swimming in a real-live swimming pool. We figured he’d enjoy it, given how much he loves playing in the tub, and how much fun he had in a little kiddie pool in the backyard over the summer. Today’s Photos: The Boy Loves Books
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: our young man is very much a bibliophile. It’s to the point now where, in that hour or so of playtime after we get home from school and before dinner, all he wants to do is go through his books, completely ignoring the piles of toys in the family room. Then, before his bath, he’ll grab a book and plop down in the hallway, in various states of undress, and start reading until we pick him up and carry him – very much against his will – into the tub.
Yesterday morning was a great case in point, as he was late to school (and Mommy was late to work) because… he just wanted to read. As Mommy put it:
He had a tantrum because I told him we had to go to school and that he needed to stop reading and come over to the pram. He refused. So we compromised and I let him take his book with him on the walk to school.
Please note that we use the term ‘tantrum’ rather loosely, and we recognize that what we see now as ‘tantrums’ (i.e. he cries a bit until he gets his way) will probably seem like, well, child’s play once he really gets into the tantrums. Or so we’ve been warned. And of course, we couldn’t be happier that all he wants to do is read. It just means we need to keep buying him new books!

Yes, we’re a few months late here, but it just struck us that we hadn’t gotten around to posting very many of the photos from Christmas. And there were a LOT. So here’s a slideshow of Nyan Thomas getting his Christmas on. (A few of these photos have been posted before, but they’re well worth seeing again, we’d argue…)

Nyan is 19 (Pics and Video)
We have this great, deep, meaningful essay that’s mostly composed in our head, that we were going to flesh out in honor of today – our boy’s 19-month birthday. It was going to be all about how joyful and happy he is almost all the time; how we’re sure that most people get sick of hearing Mommy and Daddy wax on, and on, and on about how wonderful their little boy is. And how he seems to have entered some magical (and hopefully long-lasting) phase where he’s talking, walking, giggling, and just general being utterly adorable (oops, there we go again). And also we’d note how some of his recent changes have been so gradual that we hardly even notice at the time – like the way he now pretty much insists on feeding himself at all times (and he is eating quite well, we’re happy to report).
Yes, we were going to write all that, but, well, it turned into a rather busy day at work, and you know how that goes. So instead of writing all that, we leave you with a slideshow of a few recent photos of the lad, plus a video of Nyan from his visit with Mommy to the public library the other day. He went crazy for the books, of course – but he also spent a little time on one of the computers. Definitely a digital native.

Last weekend, a friend of Mommy’s was over, and took a video of the little man on her mobile phone. She later used some program or other to convert it into the collage of still frames and varied expressions you see below, and posted it to Facebook.
