Here’s Nyan Thomas, doing one of his favorite leisure time activities: Skyping with Grandma.

Trying out a new technology; assuming it works, here’s a quick progression of Nyan showing off his various facial expressions, three days old.
When we first arrived in Singapore, Nyan’s hair was way too long. He looked messy, and oh the heat… so we went to a baby barber shop that basically knew one cut: buzz it all off. It was a cool haircut (as in, his head no longer retained heat), but definitely not his best look. It grows quickly, happily, and the other day he was starting to look a bit scraggly. So Mommy took him to a local barber shop, one that actually knows what they’re doing. They trimmed the sides and back and let the front keep growing in. He’s looking good, and there was no fussing or complaining by the young man during the haircut. As Mommy put it: He’s becoming a real pro at getting a haircut!

Down the road from our apartment is a bunch of restaurants, and outside one of them is an old motorcycle that’s been set up as a coin-operated toy – the idea being, drop a coin in the slot and the thing will vibrate and make noise and bring joy to a certain almost-three-year-old boy. So the other night, Daddy lifted Nyan onto the bike and Mommy dropped in a coin.
And nothing happened. The damn thing was broken! Oh well. Nyan still enjoyed it, somewhat.

One of our last meals in London was at our neighborhood sushi joint. Good food and good music, as our boy demonstrates here:
Music by a band called Vampire Weekend, a current fave among the hip crowd (such as our boy, obvs). But he shows his street cred and his indie roots by dancing even harder to the Clash as well (while also demanding that Mommy dance too):
In August 2012, soon after we moved to London, Nyan started spending his days at Little Bear’s Nursery. (That’s daycare, for you U.S. readers.) We love the place – all of his carers look after him like he’s their own boy; they work with him on walking, talking, learning, dinosaur names, you name it. And he’s made a ton of friends among the children he spends most of his days with.
That all comes to an end today: his last day at Little Bear’s. It’s bittersweet: we’re off on a great new adventure, but we’ll miss the workers, parents and kids at the nursery. And Nyan will surely miss all of them as well.
To commemorate the departure, here’s Nyan with one of his carers, Sophie, first in August 2012, before he could walk or even talk, and again this past weekend:
And here is with four more of his carers – Aisha, Raisah, Almas and Nilofer:
So long, Little Bear’s!
