These two besties got to spend a good amount of time together in July, capped off by two nights in a row of sleepovers to mark Nyan’s birthday. Let’s take a look at the two crazy kids in action.
Dinner at a local shopping mall one evening turned into a bit of a dance-off between the two:
They also got lots of play time, goofing around time, screen time, and just generally boys-being-boys time.
We close with just a couple of dudes, walking down the road.
June 2019 saw the end of Nyan’s Year 3 — that;’s the equivalent of 2nd grade to the US; not sure what it would be in the UK, sorry! Here he is on the first day of school (August 2018) and the last (June 2019)
Some pics from the waning days of the year. Here he is around the apartment complex, waiting for the bus or happy to be home at the end of the day:
Some shots of his classmates:
And various moments around the school:
On one of the last days, Nyan’s teacher tipped us off that he was to receive a “certificate” of merit, for making excellent progress in his Mandarin class, during a full-school assembly. Nyan didn’t know about it. So Daddy went to the assembly, hid in the back, and took a shaky video of the award.
Nyan’s school, Eton House, organized a big ‘Eton Mall’ one day in March. The classes all decided on stuff to sell, and the kids came up with advertisements, pricing, the whole works. Then the kids manned the tills and sold their stuff!
Here are Nyan and his good friend Arav selling their wares (cookies mostly). And eating a popsicle that Nyan bought from one of the other stalls.
On another March day, his old friend Kyra from preschool days, and her sister Chryssa, had a joint birthday party at their condo, right next door to ours. So we went! There was a magician, there was food, there was playing around on the playground equipment.
And on yet another day, Nyan had soccer practice. One of the coaches had brought her DSLR camera, and Nyan somehow convinced her to let him play around with it. The little dude loves to shoot!
February was a good month for catching up with good friends, thanks to a convergence of birthdays and sleepovers. That’s no exaggeration: on one busy Saturday in early February, Nyan attended two afternoon parties and then capped it off with a sleepover at Jayden’s.
First up was Adriana’s birthday. We hadn’t seen her in many months — same for Kyra and Chrysa, who also attended — but they quickly all got reacquainted and back to their old tricks.
There were balloons too.
What kid doesn’t like bouncing a balloon around? Until the goody bag is handed out, of course.
Then it was off to Kyle’s birthday at a local wall-climbing gym.
There was cake, of course.
And lots of pictures with Kyle and sister Kara.
And just a good sweaty time in general.
There wasn’t a lot of energy left by the time he got to Jayden’s for the sleepover, so they started out with some video games.
Don’t worry, they managed to find plenty of energy for a night’s worth of fun! The next day it was off to the skatepark, where the boys played in the adjacent field. Nyan and Jayden worked at “whacking” the trees, as they called it:
Jayden is, of course, Nyan’s BFF who moved to the other side of the island. The two goofballs still have regular sleepovers though.
And who is Iggie? Iggie is a stuffed iguana that is the mascot of Nyan’s class at school. Every weekend, a different student gets to take Iggie home, and is tasked with taking photos of Iggie doing all sorts of fun stuff. It was Nyan’s turn recently to take Iggie home. Check it out:
There’s never a White Christmas in Singapore, of course, but we still manage to make the most of the festive season.
We got together with Jayden and his family, and another family, for a Christmas dinner and gift-exchange for the kiddos.
It ended up as a sleepover for our hero, of course.
We also enjoyed the various holiday decorations around town:
On Christmas Day itself, we went over to Kyle’s house for a lovely dinner with his family, and other friends. The kids had a blast with various playtimes:
There was a newborn baby there, which Mommy had a blast with:
We opened presents on Christmas morning, of course. But we somehow managed to not take any pictures during the unwrapping! Oops. Here are some photos of the tree and various gifts, before and after opening:
And some videos of Nyan opening other presents: Grandma and Grandpa like to send over a big box full of presents for Nyan to open, one per day, every day in December. It becomes a fun morning tradition: bound out of bed and head to the tree to open that day’s pressie. Here are a few examples:
And finally, a couple of lousy-ish videos of Nyan’s class performing at the school holiday show. They did a song about “Santa’s getting fit for Christmas.” You can see Nyan near the front, off to the right.
Jayden turned eight in October, and Nyan got to celebrate with him. Rather than a big party at an indoor playground or theme park, Jayden invited Nyan over for a simple playdate and cake. Were they excited? They were.
They spent some time at the playground at Jayden’s condo complex, complete with high-flying swing action:
